Program Overview
There have been tremendous medical and scientific advances in HIV/AIDS since the disease emerged more than 25 years ago. While deaths due to AIDS, and even new cases of AIDS have declined, new diagnoses of HIV have remained steady, particularly in minority women. In HIV/AIDS: From Diagnosis to Treatment, experts discuss epidemiology, advances in treatment, treatment complications and the latest guidelines and recommendations surrounding screening and treatment.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS.
- Understand the latest guidelines for screening for HIV infection.
- Describe the signs and symptoms of acute HIV infection.
- Know the six classes of anti-retroviral therapy, including approved agents in each class and those in late-stage development.
- Outline the current guidelines for antiretroviral therapy.
- Understand approaches to resistance testing, including when to conduct testing.
- Describe metabolic complications most often associated with treatment of HIV/AIDS.
- Understand strategies to improve adherence to antiretroviral therapy, including special needs of minority populations.
